Today we introduce you to the lovely @elizasloane. Sloane is a jewelry designer, surfer, world traveler and lover of animals. She also makes a mean cup of chai tea. Fully absolutely honored to be sharing her story and thoughts on life.
What is home? Home is feeling at peace with myself wherever I may be. The feeling of being grounded and inspired.
What did you learn from skydiving? That my body and mind can do so much more than I thought, calmly. The things we think are so scary turn out to be not that scary at all. Most of the time, anxiety and fear come from wanting to be able to control or know the outcome of a situation.
What are your thoughts on fate? When we learn to see the signs and synchronicities in life, we can have a hand in controlling our fate. But we shouldn't get so caught up that every time we stumble upon a coincidence, we think, "this is it." People, places, and events are often stepping stones... Use your intuition.
What are your thoughts on free will? This is a touchy subject. We don't always have complete control of our reality, but we do have control of our mindset and how we respond.
Why did you start making jewelry? I found out I loved working with metal and stone. I am completely captivated by alchemy and working with my hands. I also saw a void in the industry, and there really was not much jewelry I wanted to purchase or wear. Initially, I wanted to bridge the gap between southwestern inspired jewelry and sea-inspired jewelry. Now, my pieces have evolved into an aesthetic of their own which I don't feel I need to label.
If I go back to India what is something I have to do? Volunteer with Animal Aid Unlimited. During my time spent there, my heart broke a million times into a million pieces, but it also instilled so much hope in me. Some of the animals there have been through the most horrific things imaginable, but they are such resilient souls who can teach us so much.
What is the best advice you have ever received? Be impeccable with your word. Don't take anything personally. Don't make assumptions. Always do your best. The four agreements have eliminated so much unnecessary drama and self-doubt from my life... Thank you, Miguel Ruiz.
Tell me one Sloane fun fact..... My name means Warrior.
What's the difference in east coast surfing vs. west coast surfing? On the east coast where I grew up, I did a lot more waiting and wave chasing than actual surfing... But when it's good, it's REALLY good.
What is paradise? Currently, it is a simple day spent doing what I love. Waking up with the sunrise and walking my rescue dog Rishi, taking the time to make a hot cup of coffee or tea and a nice breakfast, burning some palo santo or sage, setting intentions for the day, spending a good chunk of time at my workbench, catching a yoga class, going on a hike, or watching the sunset preferably from in the water with some sea sisters, and then either making a delicious home-cooked meal or eating at one of my favorite Indian or Thai restaurants with good friends. In bed early with a good book and a cup of tea.
What is good? If it truly feels good, it is good.
What do you want the world to know about you? That I care.
What does love feel like? A great adventure.
What is your earliest memory? Making dribble castles in the sand, only for them to be washed away by the incoming tide. I guess I learned the art of healthy detachment at an early age.
