Hi everyone meet @sara_lezama she is the founder of @ryegoods a baking company in Costa Mesa, CA. We teamed up with @knownsupply this week to bring you closer to the women who are being bold. Sara pours heart heat and soul into making baked good and it really shows.
What do you love about making bread?
Bread is challenging. Every day you start from the very beginning and itโs up to you to make beautiful bread with the elements against you. Itโs terrifying but yet the most peaceful practice.
What is paradise?
Paradise is cooking a meal with friends and family.
Tell me about Rye Goods.
Rye is made up of empowered men and women. We are a strong group of bakers and chefs trying to make an impact on the community.
What is one Sara fun fact?
I'm allergic to ginger, but I love the taste so, so much!
What would you say has been your best investment?
Investing in the time and money it takes to travel. Learning, growing, and making long-time friends on my travels has shaped this bakery into what it is today.
What experiences in life shaped you most?
Growing up with my brother Alan was probably one of the greatest experiences and showed me how to be fearless.
When is the last time you felt pure bliss?
At my last event with The Ecology Center. So many people turned out to support the bakery and the farm. I couldnโt believe it. I paused in the middle of the crazy rush and enjoyed it.
What is your secret talent?
I'm a pretty good skateboarder.
How has failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?
I've learned so much over the past few years. Starting out of my home, I had the chance to fail in a bunch of small ways and worked through it all while still staying pretty risk-free. I feel ready to take on a storefront.
What have you changed your mind about in the past few years? Why?
Work. Balancing life and work has been hard. Over the past year, Iโve put effort into enjoying life and letting go of some of the small work things.
When you think of the word successful, who is the first person that comes to mind?
Sara Forte of The Sprouted Kitchen, bringing health and wellness to her family and the community.
What is the biggest realization you have had about yourself?
I realized after all my failures and successes that I am strong and can do this.
What have you learned from making bread?
Bread has brought me out of my shell and into the community like I never would have imagined. It's been the most humbling experience of my life.
